Our New Outdoor Expansion!

HUB Sports Fields

“Fields for our Future. A Pitch for More Play.”

HUB Sports Center will maximize 20 acres of our undeveloped land adjacent to our current facility to expand our capacity to serve the community through improved access to recreation amenities and programmed events and activities. This will be the first of its kind in our community and will increase outdoor year-round recreational space by 200% by adding four synthetic turf fields to the current countywide inventory of two. The construction and development will have both an immediate and long-lasting positive impact on our neighborhood as well as people of all ages and backgrounds in our community and the surrounding areas.

Our goal is to build multiple opportunities for play, recreation, and exercise within this complex. Amenities would include four multiuse, synthetic turf fields with lights, one natural grass field, inclusive playground for youth, pickleball courts, walking pathways, as well as a teen center / community room.

  • The illuminated synthetic turf fields would be the shape and size to accommodate multiple sports such as, soccer, lacrosse, football, rugby, and ultimate frisbee. Synthetic turf would allow for access to play year-round and these different sports to be interchangeable and thus more diverse options for play. The lighted access would also allow for year-round access to play. The natural grass field would be used for a variety of activities during the spring, summer, and early fall months. These spaces would be open to the public during the day and available for rentals in the afternoon and evenings.
  • The inclusive playground is a universally designed, sensory-rich environment that enables children to develop physically, socially, and emotionally. An engaging place that provides the just-right level of challenge and offers opportunities to succeed. A place that goes beyond minimum accessibility to create play experiences that meet a variety of needs and interests. At an inclusive playground, children (and adults) of all abilities can interact with each other and play. This space would be open to the public from dawn until dusk.
  • Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the country. HUB Sports Center already hosts over 10,000 players annually with our indoor courts. According to USA Pickleball, the sport has an average annual growth rate of 11.5% over the last five years. More outdoor opportunities are needed to keep up with the demand and growth of this popular sport. This space will have a mix of time open to the public as well as reserved for camps, clinics, and tournaments.
  • The walking space and pathways will wind throughout the complex. This provides an opportunity for people, mostly adults, a place to exercise while their children are participating in activities on the fields. This will be open to the public to walk from dawn until dusk.
  • The teen center / community room will be in partnership and collaboration with Selkirk Middle School and Central Valley School District. The middle school is directly to the east of this property. We have an existing afterschool program with them utilizing a studio within HUB Sports Center. This will be an intentional space to serve these youth afterschool. We will have a pathway direct from the middle school to this facility. The space may be used as a community room on the evenings, weekends, and summer when school is not in session.

HUB Sports Center prides itself in our ability to collaborate and partner with multiple organizations and community groups to provide events that have a positive impact on youth and out community. We have built a strong reputation of coming alongside like-minded nonprofits to help them provide and expand opportunities for youth to participate in positive events and activities. We will continue to use the lessons we have learned from these collaborations and apply them to this new outdoor complex.  Our team also identifies gaps in service and creates outreach programs to fill those needs. Examples are our HUB 360 afterschool program for at-risk middle school students and our Police Activity League to bring law enforcement and elementary students together to play and have a positive interaction. (These programs are free for participants and, in collaboration with our local schools identifying potential participants, served disproportionately impacted youth. 2/3 on free/reduced lunch and 1/3 from single parent families.) With the addition of these outdoor assets and amenities we can expand the opportunities and possibilities for new outreach programs and events.
